Monumenta Serica oral of Oriental Studies is one of the most prestigious and oldest Western Sinology research journals in the international Sinology community. Mainly dedicated to the study of Chinese culture, its Chinese name is "Journal of Chinese Studies" (meaning "academic journal on China and neighboring countries"). However, research topics closely related to China, such as Japan, Mongolia, Manchuria, Xizang or South Korea, will also be published. Intended to promote cross-cultural exchange and cooperation between Chinese and Western scholars. It provides a platform for academic exchange between Chinese and Western scholars, covering numerous important areas of Sinology research.

The content it publishes covers articles related to Chinese history, language, literature, philosophy, Chinese religion and its history, missionary history, art, and other related fields. The published languages include English, German, French, and occasionally Chinese. Since its establishment, it has had a wide influence in the field of Sinology and is one of the main literature in current Sinology research.
