Galen Medical Journal is a professional medical journal named after the famous ancient medical scientist Claudius Galen. Galen was one of the most outstanding medical scientists of the Roman Empire, and his contributions to medicine were profound, especially in anatomy and physiology. Galen's medical theory was widely accepted in the Middle Ages and influenced the European medical community for over a thousand years. Galen's medical practice and theory were based on observations of animal anatomy, especially dogs, as the laws of his time prohibited dissection of the human body. Through these studies, he proposed theories about blood movement, although these theories were later proven to be flawed, such as his erroneous belief that blood from both sides of the heart flows through small holes in the interventricular septum.
Galen's medical system is very comprehensive, including descriptions of disease classification and diagnosis and treatment methods. He emphasized the importance of natural healing power and advocated restoring healthy balance through natural means, such as clearing excess bodily fluids through diarrhea, vomiting, and sweating. In addition, Galen conducted in-depth research on the medicinal value of plants, animals, and minerals, and recorded a large amount of pharmaceutical knowledge in his pharmacological works.
